Recently, Clinical Prof. UdomKachintorn, M.D. Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Mahidol University, the president of Board of Directors of Thai Maternal and Child Health Network Project (2ndfrom right) and Associate Professor Thrathip Kolatate. M.D, Project Manager(1st from right), had receive the sculpture, named “Mercy” from Thailand National Artist Professor Emeritus Nonthivathn Chandhanaphalin (2nd from right) while Professor Veeradej Panomvan Na Ayudhaya (1st from left) was an eyewitness in the event.
The sculpture is named “Mercy” or in Thai “Por Kong Pandin’(or “The Father of the Land”).The concept to create this sculpture has revealed by Prof. Nonthivathn that the bigger image or "The Father" is represent“The King” while the child or smaller image who seat on the lap is represent Thai people. The overall sense is that His Majesty is mercy, very kind to Thai people.
The sculpture is made by white porcelain with its platform of 9 inches width. It is the limited edition of 999 units and every sculpture will have its specific number. About The Project’s Background
HRH Princess Srirasm, the consort of HRH Crown Prince MahaVajiralongkorn, has granted her patronage to a project designed to help provide a better quality of life to premature babies suffering from Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). The project, being implemented to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s 80th birthday anniversary and HRH the Crown Prince’s fifth-cycle birthday anniversary in 2012, is supported by the Thai Maternal and Child Health Network (TMCHN) which also comes under the patronage of HRH Princess Srirasm.
