The Lactation Massage Skills seminar workshop will be a 'Hands-on Learning' demonstration. It will be a step by step demo on how to manage lactation in providing the Moms with comfort to bolster confidence, by helping her to relax to enable the release of hormones capable of breast milk production and enhance the flow of breast milk instantly. Knowing the lactation points and learning the right and appropriate massage strokes are substantive learning that will be shared by experts Lactation Massage specialists / Trainers at the seminar. This 'Hands-on Learning on Special Lactation Massage' was applied in the Peer Counselling Training, 2011-2012 by Philippines' Arugaan (Breastfeeding organization) Trainers for 5,000 Peer Counsellors (composed of doctors, nurses, midwives, mother leaders and health workers) from 20 cities. The project was funded by WHO Philippines. Likewise, in 2010 UNICEF Manila funded an emergency response project, Relactation Journey, for 3,435 Mom-Baby pairs who were relactated successfully. They were the typhoon flood-mud survivors in Metro Manila and nearby areas. The project was managed by Arugaan Breastfeeding Counsellors and logistics were administered by Save the Children in the Philippines. Lactation Massage skills have been honed over many decades and have proved effective. It is based on both science and tradition. Thus, Arugaan Philippines is sharing this empowering intervention with fellow sisters in Thailand as requested by Thai Breastfeeding Centre and Samitivej Sukhumvit Lactation Clinic on January 25 in Bangkok.
