Alliance francaise de Bangkok is proud to bring together two well-known artists Alex Face and Jace, and offering them the opportunity to revive and transform the walls of Embassy of France’s Department of Cooperation and Culture’s former offices on the first floor of Alliance fran?aise Bangkok. On January 28, they will start to paint an ever-changing, individual and collective exhibition entitled “Entr?e Libre” or free admission.
Alex Face, whose actual Thai name is Patcharapol Tangruen, is a well-known and influential graffiti artist in Thailand. Personal interest as well as his architecture studies led him to seek out abandoned buildings with surfaces where he could express himself. He then created Alex Face, a character with an aged, disillusioned child’s face wearing animal costumes. Through his graffiti, Alex Face especially attempts to create a link with the urban population, the underprivileged of Bangkok and the provinces. He has now included into his graffiti images of penguins that have since become famous.
Jace is a French graffiti artist originally from Le Havre in northern France who has lived on Reunion Island since he was 9 years old. But Jace is really Gouzou, a humorous, faceless character who remains fearless under any climate, in any circumstance and any country. It is Jace’s passion for drawing and his dream of an underground lifestyle that prompted him to specialize in graffiti art. Fascinated by the idea of transforming advertising posters, he has exhibited his work in many countries around the world. Eager to protect his freedom of expression, he no longer wants to solely express himself through Gouzou, and we can expect surprises during the exhibition at Alliance fran?aise.
For four days, urban art fans will have the chance to meet both artists and to watch the progression of their work in the seven rooms turned over to them. Moreover on opening night on Thursday, January 31, Alex Face and Jace will create a work together during an art happening. The Alliance fran?aise hopes that this collaboration will lead to a unique work created by combining the two artists’ personal styles reflecting their personalities and cultures.
