Bangkok--29 Jan--Alliance Francaise Bangkok A not to be missed event for all lovers of the French language and French culture, Francophonie Day will be celebrated on February 2 in Bangkok with gastronomy as its central theme. Although the Day of the Francophonie, which gathers states and countries sharing a French heritage, is held on March 20 throughout the world, in Thailand it is celebrated each year shortly before the school examination period, the date being determined by the school calendar. Its objective is to enable people to enjoy themselves around the French language and to discover the cutural diversity of the many countries who either speak French or have a French heritage. Francophonie Day will be filled with contests and activities organized by Francophone countires’ embassies, an opportunity for people to test their knowledge of the French language and to acquaint themselves with the culture of French heritage countires. Highlights of the program will be the traditional dictations, the legendary karaoke contest, quiz, and of course the petanque competition! This year, gourmets and gourmands will be thrilled as Francophonie Day’s theme is to be gastronomy: They will be able to savor culinary specialties from every corner of the planet, learning about this aspect of the Francophonie that is especially prized all over the world.
