Central Watson Co., Ltd has appointed Rod Routley as managing director of the Thailand office, effective from January 2013. He assumes responsibility for the overall leadership of the Watsons Businesses in Thailand with a high focus on the development of growth strategies to support Thailand’s dynamic market.
Mr Routley has over 25 years of experience in the retail industry covering department stores, luxury brands, specialty fashions and health & beauty across Australia and Asia. He has been with the A.S. Watson Group for over 13 years and most recently was the regional managing director of Watsons in Eastern China. Over his eight-year tenure in Shanghai, he led the expansion of the Eastern China business from 30 up to a total of 550 stores by the end of 2012.
Routley started his retail career with the Myer Department Store Group in Australia where he worked for over eleven years and held various senior executive positions. Moving then into specialty fashion retail, Rod joined the Sportsgirl- Sportscraft Group as regional general manager. Moving to Hong Kong in 1999, and prior to his role in China, he was the retail director of Nuance-Watson, the travel retail arm of the A.S. Watson Group.
