Over 80 leading educational institutions showcase their best offerings to attract Thai students
The Great India Education Fair 2013 (TGIEF 2013), the biggest exhibition in Thailand dedicated to showcasing the finest universities, colleges and educational institutions from across India opened its doors today at Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.
The official opening ceremony was presided over by the Ambassador of India to Thailand His Excellency Mr. Anil Wadhwa, who was accompanied by representatives from key supporters of the event, the India-Thai Business Association, India-Thai Chamber of Commerce, Global Talent Consultants, and the fair organiser AFAIRS Exhibitions & Media Pvt Ltd.
TGIEF 2013 displays the strengths and advantages of the Indian education system, with representatives from over 80 Indian educational institutions, including boarding schools, colleges and universities, available to provide information to parents and prospective students.
The fair is divided into two sections, one on schools and the other on higher education.
In the school section reputed Indian residential schools for students between 8 to 18 years are offering primary, middle and secondary level school education with Indian ICSE and CBSE, as well as international IB or CIE curriculums.
In the higher education section Indian universities and top colleges are presenting a very wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and vocational courses for students between 18 to 25 years. “TGIEF has been staged very successfully in Thailand for the past five years,” said Sanjeev Bolia, Founder and Managing Director of AFAIRS Exhibitions and Media Pvt Ltd. “Last year we had over 4,000 visitors, parents and students attending, and this year we are confidently expecting more than that number.
“The excellent reputation of India’s educational institutions is spreading internationally, and along with the cultural affinity between Thais and Indians, and the rise of India as a global power, the attractions for parents and students alike are becoming stronger than ever.
“The cost savings also make a compelling case. For example, the cost of a three-year degree course in India can easily be one-quarter that of the same programme in Australia, one-sixth that of the United Kingdom, and one-tenth that of the United States.”
India’s educational institutions are globally recognized for their quality and as good value for money. The tertiary level educational institutions in India offer a wide range of courses in the fields of Engineering, Medicine, Agriculture, Management, Humanities, Social Sciences, Fine Arts, Science and also in emerging areas of Bio-Technology, Bio-Informatics, Space Technology, Robotics etc which will be on offer by the participating universities and colleges with their undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
English learning centres participating will offer short-term and long-term English learning programmes.
Currently over six thousand students from Thailand are studying in various Indian schools and colleges. At the government-to-government level, India and Thailand have had an MOU for Cooperation in the Field of Education since 2005. On its part, the government of India offers around 107 scholarships to Thai officials and students every year under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme (ITEC), Colombo Plan, Hindi scholarships and ICCR sponsored schemes.
In terms of quality, professional education and scientific research, Indian academic institutions are globally recognized as measuring up to the very best in the world. Recognising the high quality education that India offers within the reach of every income-group, a large number of students fly to India every year from all corners of the globe to satisfy their desire for learning.
India has today become a key location for global businesses looking to expand and invest outside the developed world. Over 200 of the Fortune 500 companies recruit from Indian campuses regularly. The enduring growth of the Indian economy, averaging over 8% in the last decade, has at the same time enabled Indian industries, particularly in the communications, software, automobile, mining and minerals and manufacturing sectors to invest abroad. Those who have studied in India and are familiar with its work culture are at an obvious advantage while competing for jobs at international firms in India and Indian firms abroad.
Visitors to the event will have the opportunity to take part in activities and programmes such as an interactive quiz, talk shows, taste of India and much more.
Admittance to the two-day fair is free of charge.
