Bangkok--5 Feb--Thai AirAsia
Thai AirAsia celebrates its 9th anniversary with plans to repay the gratitude of its passengers with positive improvements throughout the year, including Free Wi-Fi at Don Mueang International Airport, more frequent flights to popular destinations, and more convenient ways to book a plane ticket. On the auspicious occasion, a blessing ceremony took place for the fleet’s 28th aircraft as the airline welcomed Thailand’s first eco-friendly and energy-efficient Airbus A320 Sharklet to the family. The ceremony was attended by Thai AirAsia’s Senior Management team and staff.
Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia said, “Thai AirAsia has grown and expanded at rapid speed in the last 9 years. Going into our 10th year, we look forward to introducing new innovations to enhance our passengers’ travel experience. This year, Thai AirAsia will receive 7 new Airbus A320s to end 2013 with a fleet of 34 aircraft.”
“On the occasion of our 9th anniversary, we welcomed the 28th Airbus A320 of our fleet at a blessing ceremony. The aircraft’s special characteristic is its Sharklet wingtip, which allows it to be especially fuel efficient and eco-friendly. It is Thailand’s first such aviation innovation and is indicative of AirAsia’s unceasing progress. The new craft will be operating from today onward on routes both domestic and international”.
The “Sharklet” is a wingtip addition designed and engineered by Airbus. The addition makes aircrafts much more fuel efficient and grants them both greater distance and cargo capability.
Mr. Tassapon revealed that AirAsia’s fleet expansion in 2013 will focus on enhancing comfort for passengers with all of its 7 new aircraft. The airline will work to add more flights to popular destinations such as Phuket, Chiang Mai and Hat Yai, etc. as well as within China and throughout Indochina, all of which saw strong response to increased frequency in the year past. As a gift to passengers, AirAsia has also begun looking into providing free Wi-Fi access to its customers at Don Mueang Airport and new, more convenient, booking channels as well as into carrying out Corporate Social Responsibility programs across the nation.
