This Thai summer delicacy, or Jasmine rice with chilled Jasmine scented water and a selection of traditional condiments, is believed to have originated during the reign of Rama II as an attempt to help the King regain appetite lost due to excessive heat, but it was not until the time of Rama V that it began being consumed widely as an effective summer cooler.
