Bangkok--13 May--SOFITEL BANGKOK SUKHUMVIT Discover the exotic flavours of regional cuisine at Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit’s Southern Thai Food Festival at Voil?! from now until 19th May, 2013. In addition to the usual bountiful buffet at Voil?! talented Thai chefs will be creating enticing southern Thai dishes to enjoy in sophisticated surroundings. The food of the south is strongly influenced the Muslim heritage in the provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala, and Satun. The vast majority of the Muslim population in this part of the country is of Malay descent with ancestors originally coming from the Indian subcontinent. Southern Thai food carries much of the trademark pungency of India cuisine and can be spicier that Thai food from other regions. One of the dominant spices used in southern cooking is turmeric, known locally as kamin. The fresh kamin roots add a vibrant yellow colour and exotic flavour to many dishes. At Voila! the Southern Thai Food Festival will feature an array of dishes including a fragrant yellow curry with bamboo, and fried snapper with cumin. There’ll also be delicious soft shell crab with garlic, the southern favourite of sator pad kung, and the intriguing curry with young banana and pork. The south is also known for its delightful desserts and chefs at Voila! will serve heavenly little rolled crepes called kanom la, as well as kanom gong, a distinctly Thai take on doughnuts, and the classic roti gluay, an irresistible Southern-style banana pancake. Voila! is the hotel’s signature all day dining restaurant. Diners can experience the ‘Cuisines on Stage’ concept with delectable dishes prepared by passionate chefs at live cooking stations. The culinary journey includes French-style cuisine from an artisan La Cornue stove and a Parisian-style rotisserie. There’s also a bountiful buffet selection of Western dishes including pizza made to order and pulled hot from a wood fired oven, Asian temptations from Japan and China, regional spicy Thai favourites, freshly caught seafood delicacies, delicious desserts, and much more. The buffet selection is available for lunch and dinner.
