Chef Diego Martinelli was born in Modena in northern central Italy — a city better known as “the capital of engines” where the factories of Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini are located. He has graced the kitchens of Four Seasons hotels around the world, and also a fine dining restaurant in his home town frequented by Grand Prix racing teams. Bringing his talents east, Chef Diego is now hosting exclusive dining events across Asia.
Bringing superb Italian gastronomy to Bangkok, Chef Diego’s Umberto Cesari Wine Dinner from 7:00 pm - 10:30 pm on 21st May is priced at THB 2,250++ per person. Guests will arrive to sample a trio of sumptuous canap?s served with prosecco. The superb five course connoisseur menu commences with an appetising amuse bouche, and each of the four dishes thereafter is expertly complemented by the perfect wine from the Umberto Cesari vineyard.
Chef Diego is then delighting diners with a similar Degustation Menu between 6:00 pm and 10:30 pm for three consecutive nights. This gourmet food only four course sequence can be savoured ? la carte with prices per dish starting at THB 320++, or enjoyed as a set menu with a tasty amuse bouche for THB 1,650++ per person. Guests can also indulge in a bottle of fine Umberto Cesari wine at special prices, with two of the four varieties also available by the glass.
The Cesari household has always been passionate about wine. Umberto's father ran one of the most historic “osteria” wine and simple food establishments in Bologna. Not satisfied with following in his father's footsteps, Umberto pursued a dream of not just selling great wine, but creating it. In 1965 he purchased a 20 hectare vineyard in Emilia Romagna on the hills of Castel San Pietro near Bologna, which now span 120 hectares. With the vision of turning Sangiovese into a great wine that is typical of its origins and loved worldwide, Umberto Cesari is among the first wineries to focus on this grape variety and popularise it at an international level. The heart of production is finely structured wines obtained from local grape varieties that undergo an extended ageing process, using modern technology and traditional techniques.
