Bangkok--23 May--Anantara
In preparation for the much anticipated King’s Cup Elephant Polo Tournament 2013 in Hua Hin from 28th August — 1st September 2013, Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas is launching a nationwide children’s art competition with a “Thai Elephants are in My Heart” theme, to help save Thailand’s elephants and give one family the holiday of a lifetime.
Motivating children at Thai and international schools across Thailand to get involved through a fun educational initiative, Anantara’s elephant inspired art contest is open to children aged 7 to 12 years. Inspired by a ‘Thai Elephants are in My Heart’ theme, entrants are invited to let their passion for elephants and creative juices flow, by painting a picture that raises awareness about the need for elephant conservation. The artwork dimensions specified are A3 (297 x 420 mm), and contestants are welcome to use paper or canvas with any medium.
Each entrant must submit one piece of artwork by 31th July 2013. Judging criteria is based on clarity of the theme, creativity overall impression and originality, with 80% of the scores coming from members of the judging panel and 20% from ‘Likes’ on facebook. Judges will select a collection of art pieces to be posted on the Anantara Facebook page www.facebook.com/anantara in time for public voting from 2nd August to 8th August 2013, and the winner will be announced on Facebook on 9th August 2013.
The winner of this ele-fantastic art contest will experience the King’s Cup Elephant Polo Tournament by enjoying a complimentary four night stay with two parents or adult guardians from 28th August — 1st September 2013 at Anantara Hua Hin Resort & Spa. The free holiday prize is inclusive of transportation by car, train or plane to the resort depending on the family’s home address in Thailand, as well as full board meals throughout the stay, a competition winner’s certificate, ‘Elephants for Kids’ t-shirts and elephant polo shirts.
The annual King’s Cup Elephant Polo Tournament promises much more than Thailand’s most unique sporting event, by offering far reaching benefits for elephants and people in need. Elephant welfare is paramount, with strict tournament rules in place to ensure that the pachyderms are well cared for at all times. Each year the tournament generates significant funding for important charitable projects, carried out by Anantara’s Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation (GTAEF), in collaboration with likeminded partners.
In addition to the rescued street elephants who now enjoy a comfortable lifestyle at Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort, the annual event allows a further 24 young elephants to be taken off the streets for the two week period surrounding the tournament, providing them with a native forest environment and the best food possible, as well as the only veterinary check they would probably receive all year. To date, money raised from the tournament has been donated to help the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre, to build the first elephant hospital in Krabi, to set up and continue to support the world’s first ever Thai Elephant Therapy Project for autistic children, and to assist projects that address human-elephant conflict issues.
