Almost three quarters of women say that they do most of the research when it comes to planning a holiday, with just 9% claiming their partner does it, according to a pollof 1000 international travellers by leading global travel search site Skyscanner.
Of the men who admitted their partner did the research, a third claimed it was because their partner was better at it and could find better deals, while 1 in 10 admitted it was simply because they were too lazy!
Additionally a fifth of these men believe their partners enjoy doing the research more than they do and 19% think their partners do the research because they are fussier — and it appears they might be right as only 24% of women said they would be happy to let their partner make all the holiday decisions.
However it appears there is holiday harmony with a whopping 95% of women and 97% of men claiming to be happy with the current decision making set up.
This is further reinforced by the fact just 5% said they often disagreed about the holiday decisions. Flight decisions were least likely to cause arguments with only2% claiming to “often disagree”, while spending budget was the most contentious issue with almost 1 in every 10 respondents admitting to arguing on this point.
Market Development Manager, Thailand, Grace PobpabhaAreeratcommented, “Planning a holiday can provide lots of talking points and create lots of decision-making. In Thailand, planning is more complicated because many families like to travel together in large groups — therefore, the organiser must be a great multi-tasker with communication, budgeting, negotiation, and organisation skills.
“Given these factors, the findings of our survey show us that, more often than not, it’s women who do the leg work and get the final say — and many laid-back men seem to be happy with this!”
AdisornTechotatrisaid he and his girlfriend, Nita Chongruksomwangtravel regularly, and she usually does the planning.
"I confess I am a little lazy when it comes to holiday planning, and I'm happy to leave it to my girlfriend. When it comes to vacation time, she comes up with some options and then we usually decide together"
He added, "And because they want to please their girlfriends, most of my friends tend to follow the travel advice of their partners as well. If she left it to me, we'd probably never go on holiday!"
