Following to the government’s policy on the support of the Thai Common Ticket Project which aimed to uplift the fare collection service of the domestic public transportation service system, the commuter can use only one ticket with all kinds of the public transportation services. However, the challenges that this project are facing currently are about the confidence in the linkage efficiency and security with all kinds of public transportation systems and the reasonable budget for improvement of such system. Therefore, the open common ticket standard probably is another interesting option as many countries applied this standard to link with their fare collection systems in order to make the system interoperability easily, cost-effectively and securely.
According to the news release of the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (Public Organization) or ETDA, a Public Organization under the supervision of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), it was revealed that recently the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP) and the Open Standard for Public Transportation (OSPT) Alliance jointly arranged the workshop on “A Solution to Get an Open ‘Automatic Fare Collection’ Payment Standard in Thailand” to provide knowledge and understanding on the open common ticket standard.
During the workshop, the expert speakers from OSPT Alliance and OTP provided knowledge and objectives of this workshop to the participants. In addition, CIPURSE, a standard which allows the fare collection software developers under open common ticket system to link with information and systems of the public transportation operators conveniently, effectively as well as securely, was also discussed. This system can lift up the public transportation services both in the national and regional level. More importantly, CIPURSE is the open standard with high security and flexibility for fare collection systems, so the public transportation commuters can choose the suitable product without being monopolized by any product vendor. This workshop provided understanding and knowledge on the open common ticket standard for the participants to make them be able to consider the appropriated alternatives to link the fare collection system to provide common ticket service of Thailand.
