Renowned Thai football player Teeratep “Leesaw” Winothai, a striker at Thai Premier League club Bangkok Glass, was the guest speaker at the Bangkok Prep’s Sports Awards Ceremony held at the school on Monday June 17th 2013.
A former player at England’s Crystal Palace and Everton football clubs, Leesaw gave a motivational and inspirational talk to the students where he stressed on the importance of setting goals and pursuing their dreams. He advised that to be the best, one must cultivate perseverance and determination. Students must also seek opportunities to learn all there is to know about their favourite sports, both on and off the field, by watching the sporting games on television and reading books.
Most importantly, he said students need to take good care of themselves by keeping fit and healthy and demonstrating good sportsmanship.
This is the first time Bangkok Prep organised a schoolwide sports award ceremony, held to recognize outstanding student athletes who have represented the school in various inter school sports leagues and competitions such as TISAC (Thailand International Schools Activity Conference) and FOBISSEA (The Federation of British International Schools in South East Asia), throughout the school year.
Bkk Prep won the swimming championship for U13 girls and the football championship for Y5 boys in FOBBISEA. In TISAC, Bkk Prep received championships in basketball (U13), football (U9, U13 ad U15), swimming (U9 ad U11) and badminton (U13).
Awards that were given to primary and secondary students included various categories such as outstanding athlete, player of the year and most improved athlete. Special sports recognition awards were also presented to students who won sporting events at the national level. These included Michael Mathayomchand, Y8, age 12,ranked No 34 in Thailand and No.9 in the Under 13 category, and Ploy Tomas, Y11, age 15, who represented the Thailand National Team and won a silver medal at the 2011 SEA Games in Indonesia.
