Final Stop The fashionable City of Milan: Boarding times: July 05th — 21st, 2013
This last, epicurean expedition of Lombardia (Lombardy) enables you to savour the varied flavours of this Alpine region’s food and wine. The fare only 1,200 baht++ per person or upgrade your experience for just 750 baht nett and experience the wine from the locality with the first three courses.
Lombardy’s history stretches back before the Romans to the tribe of Etruscans who were overwhelmed by Celts from over the Alps and then conquered by Rome around 200 year before Christ. Today Lombardy is the powerhouse of Italy, a prosperous region with Milan as its capital. From the Alpine mountains in the north to the rolling hills in the centre and flat planes further south giving a very diverse look and feel to the countryside. Add to this some stunningly beautiful lakes like Como, Garda, Maggiore and Lombardy is a part of Italy worth visiting.
The first course of this Lombardian epicurean tour is typical of the region; Cotechino & Polenta is a big pork sausage served with polenta, a starter that is guaranteed to whet your appetite for the following wealth of gastronomic delights. This is paired with a Sebastian Sparkling white wine from the Provenza winery at Lake Garda.
The second course is a classic dish Risotto alla Milanese, risotto with saffron sauce. This is a delightful vegetarian dish. The risotto is made with traditional Arborio rice from the valley of the River Po. The rice is firm, creamy and blends with other flavours. The wine is Lugana Prestige a nice fruity white from the Provenza winery.
The main course is a real treat for fine dining gourmets, Scaloppa alla ‘Millanses’, a pan-fried Italian veal escalope. The perfectly cooked tender white meat is well matched with a Maz?r Inferno Valtellina Superiore, from the Nino Negri winery. This wine is the culmination of the vintner’s art with a nose of rose and violets, sweet red fruits and an evocative hint of new leather. The colour of garnets of rubies, this wine is on back-slapping terms with the veal, a truly delicious combination.
And to round off this tour de force of the best of Italian cuisine the dessert is a Panettone alla Zabaglione, a Milanese cake served with zabaglione cream sauce. A smooth and toothsome dessert that is as typically Italian as the fountains of Rome. A light and creamy sauce forms a carapace of eggy goodness over the delicious Milanese cake. One Italian treat you will never forget.
