Bangkok--16 Jul--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and Romchatra Foundation, together with the government and private sector, will organize the “Diamond Crown in Economics: Ngern Tong Kong-Mee Ka and Sufficiency Economy Philosophy” contest — a competition for scholarships worth over THB 1 million (approx. USD 33,300) aiming to enhance excellence in economics, financial management and the philosophy of sufficiency economy among youth, while paving the way for university students to join for the first time. The competition is one of the SET’s activities to promote education and learning to help the young generation become more interested in financial issues. SET President Charamporn Jotikasthira said: “This contest is in accordance with SET’s mission to promote financial literacy among youth and the general public. The contest helps participants develop their expertise in economics, the sufficiency economy philosophy, and personal financial management, including their need for insurance - all of which are basic for a quality life and important to help strengthen the country’s economy.” “The contest has been highly successful during the past four years, with more than 10,000 young contestants from 3,086 educational institutions across the country participating. This shows how enthusiasm for economic and financial literacy has grown among students and schools alike. As the contest enters its fifth year, SET plans to make it as grand and intensive as ever, while expanding it to the university level for the first time. Moreover, there will also be an exhibition under the theme ‘The Thai Capital Market: The Gateway of ASEAN’, and seminars on economics and personal finance for teachers, who will be able to use such knowledge in their teaching,” Charamporn added. This year, SET has again received excellent cooperation from the Thai Life Assurance Association, the Sufficiency Economy Support Project for Education and Youth of the Crown Property Bureau, National Office of Buddhism, Romchatra Foundation, Office of the Basic Education Commission of the Ministry of Education, the Faculty of Economics at Chulalongkorn University, Satree Wittaya School II, the Capital Market Development Fund Foundation, PTT pcl, Nongpho Dairy Co-operative Ltd., and President Bakery pcl. Applications can be submitted from today until August 9, 2013. Primary and high school students will compete as individuals; each school can send five students from each level to participate.
