Mr. Kyoichi Tanada, President of Toyota Motor Thailand Co.,Ltd. has presided over 2013 Mid-Year Press Conference to report the January to June 2013 car sales performance was 740,795 units, increased by 22.1%. The car market in 2013 is adjusted to be projected to drop by 9.5% to 1,300,000 units.
Mr. Tanada said “Total domestic car sales for the first half in 2013 has set a new first half highest record in Thailand automotive industry with a total of 740,795 units or 22.1% increase, commercial vehicle increased by 11.4%, Passenger car increased by 36.7%.
The increase of domestic sales during January to April was stimulated by a pile of back order from government’s first car rebate program, also combined with fierce sales promotion among automakers.

Toyota’s first half sales decline was by 1.6% at 237,318 units, with 5.8% decreased in passenger cars segment at 99,337 units and the increase by 1.6% in commercial vehicles at 137,981. By which the 1-ton pickup that was included in commercial vehicle segment was also increased by 2.2% at 128,185 units.

- Commercial vehicles 137,981 units 1.6% increase 35.5% market share
- 1-ton pickups (including PPV) 128,185 units 2.2% increase 39.3% market share
- Pure pickups(excluding PPV) 112,420 units 3.5% increase 38.0% market share
With regard to 2013 half year car sales, Toyota exported CBU at 195,748 units which is 4.3% decrease compared to the previous year, valued at 85,855 millions baht. Besides, OEM exported worth 31,499 millions baht and the overall income contributed to the country was 117,354 million baht.”
Pertaining to trend of the 2013 automotive industry, Mr. Tanada stated “The market’s slowdown commenced in May, and has carried out probably throughout the rest of this year. It reflects that car market is returning to its normalcy after last year’s phenomenal soar. Thus the 2013 domestic automotive market is projected at 1.3 million units or around 9.5% decrease compared to the previous year.

- 1-ton pickups (including PPV) 605,000 units 9.2% decrease
- Pure pickups (excluding PPV) 545,000 units 8.1% decrease
Toyota has expected sales target this year to be over 450,000 units, with 23.5% decrease in passenger car at 172,000 units, 4.6% decrease in commercial vehicles at 278,000 units. By which the 1-ton pickup that was included in commercial vehicle segment will also been decreased 5.6% at 254,500 units.

- Passenger cars 172,000 units 23.5% decrease 27.7% market share
- Commercial vehicles 278,000 units 4.6% decrease 40.9% market share
- 1-ton pickups (including PPV) 254,500 units 5.6% decrease 42.1% market share
- Pure pickups 220,000 units 5.7% decrease 40.4% market share
With regard to 2013 car sales, Toyota exported CBU would be at 438,000 units, valued at 185,000 millions baht. Besides, OEM exported worth 66,000 million baht and the overall income contributed to the country would be around 251,000 million baht.”
Mr. Tanada said “Our plan for the second half of the year, starting with the Toyota new Vios which was launched after its World Premier in Thailand and started the new Vios exports to Asean at the beginning of this year. In August, the Toyota new Vios will be exported to the new region outside Asean. This will make new Vios be the first passenger car for exports to other global destinations outside Asean. Then, let experience together the introduction of Toyota Eco Car.
