Thai bourse launches projects promoting financial literacy and discipline

Bangkok--25 Jul--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) unveils three major projects to enhance financial literacy, increase financial discipline among general public, and expand the quality investor base in the Thai capital market. This underlines SET’s commitment to continuously provide literacy, financial planning and investment to the public, which has been done for a decade through its educational arm, Thailand Securities Institute (TSI). The projects include "Ngern Thong Tong Wang Phan : The Revolution to Wealth”, expecting over eight million people to receive information on personal financial management and investment; seven million page views of TSI’s website (www.tsi-thailand.org) for online learning, and more than 40,000 participants in TSI seminars throughout the year; “SET Investment Center” in seven universities nationwide to serve as regional investment learning centers and venues for hosting activities with local brokerage firms; and “Investor’s Practice Guide by TSI,” a stock investment guideline for new investors. SET President Charamporn Jotikasthira said: “TSI provides financial planning and investment knowledge for people of all ages. In 2013, TSI will focus on promoting literacy thorough the project called ’Ngern Thong Tong Wang Phan: The Revolution to Wealth’ via print, TV, and online, encouraging salaried workers in all industries to better manage their savings using the idea ‘saving, investing and retirement planning.” “In addition, SET has Investment Centers in Chiang Mai, Naresuan, Khon Kaen, Ubon Ratchathani, and Surat Thani Rajabhat Universities; Prince of Songkla University-Hat Yai campus, and Kasetsart University - Si Racha campus, to serve students, teachers, university officers, and local investors and become centers for hosting learning activities with regional brokerage firms. These centers have been well-received by investors, with over 4,200 participants in SET IC activities over the past six months.” To increase the expertise of new investors, SET has developed the guideline “Investor’s Practice Guide by TSI”, comprised of tips and insights from 12 investment experts on topics such as Investment style, fundamental and technical stock analysis, portfolio management, investors’ rights and trading rules. SET has continued to received excellent cooperation from Association of Thai Securities Companies (ASCO) in promoting investment knowledge to the over 70,000 investors opening trading accounts across the country this year,” Charamporn added.
