Bangkok--5 Aug--PTT Mr. Nattachat Charuchinda, Chief Operations Officer, Downstream Petroleum Business Group, PTT Public Company Limited, as director of the Emergency and Crisis Management Centre of PTT Group, has announced the progress of the company’s cleaning of the oil stained Ao Prao beach and rehabilitation for the local people, entrepreneurs, and the environment. The latest situation in Ao Prao suggests that the beach is clean for the most part and all waste bags will be removed from there within today (August 5th). The oil waste bags are being transported to refineries for inspection, classification and disposal according the standards legally set by the Department of Industrial Works. The Royal Thai Navy and the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand are assisting with the disposal of the waste bags. As for the cleaning of oil stains on rocks, high pressure water is carefully deployed to wipe out oil stains so that the beach resumes its normal conditions as soon as possible. The company stays vigilant and monitors the situation as well as keeps cleaning the oil sheens washed ashore by the waves. Regarding rehabilitation for the affected locals and entrepreneurs on Samet island, on 3 August 2013 the PTT Group met with the affected entrepreneurs to settle rehabilitation guidelines. It has set up 4 main committees responsible for four groups of affected persons, namely resorts and accommodation, shops and restaurants, small entrepreneurs, and community people. Previously, PTT Group had sent its Community Relations Division to meet with all communities across the island to give sincere apologies and record to the problems resulted from the oil spill. The PTT Group will use information gained from the communities to develop an integrated rehabilitation plan in collaboration with the Rayong province and the local residents. “PTT group offers our deepest and sincerest apologies for the oil spill situation caused by PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited. I also would like to thank all public officers and volunteers for their cooperation in cleaning Ao Prao tirelessly,” said Mr Nattachat.
