KTAM launches KTAM SET ICT ETF Tracker, the first ETF in Thailand that tracks SET ICT Sector Index.
Khun Somchai Boonnamsiri, Chief Executive Officer of Krung Thai Asset Management PCL. (KTAM) announced the launch of KTAM SET ICT ETF Tracker: EICT, the first exchange-traded fund in Thailand that tracks SET ICT Sector Index. The fund’s IPO period is 5-16 August 2013 with registered fund size Baht 3,000 million and minimum investment of Baht 5,000 (multiple of Baht 1,000 ). The fund’s policy is to invest in stocks of the companies that are constituents of SET ICT Sector Index. The fund will commerce listing on the Stock Exchange of Thailand on 27 August 2013 with the ticker: EICT.
The fund offers investors the opportunity to obtain return that links to the movement of SET ICT Sector Index before expenses. The fund is flexible with real time trading on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. The price per unit is approximately 7 Baht and can be obtained instantly without having to wait until the end of the day like other traditional mutual funds. In addition, the fund’s policy allows for dividend payment of up to 4 times per year. Asia Plus Securities PCL. is the market maker for this fund.
SET ICT Sector Index consists of stocks of Information and Communication Technology business that are listed in the Stock Exchange of Thailand. Currently, the index consists of 27 companies, such as ADVANC INTOUCH DTAC TRUE JAS THCOM and SAMART. SET ICT Sector Index is a market capitalization-weighted price index, which contributes to around 13.5% of the SET index as of 30 June 2013.
During last year, SET Index appreciated 23.87% while SET ICT Sector Index appreciated 57.22% (information as of 30 June 2013). We believe the ICT Sector will continue to benefit from expansion of 3G and 4G networks, consumers’ lifestyle change that utilizes more mobile phone applications, as well as social networking boom and higher purchasing power for smart phones; which are factors that drive demand for data usage.
