Bangkok--8 Aug--PTT Mr. Pailin Chuchottaworn, PTT Plc President & CEO, accompanied by PTT management and the media, visited Ko Samet immediately after the extraordinary meeting of the Board of Directors on August 5, which directed PTT and PTT Global Chemical Plc to jointly look after the operators and communities affected by the recent crude oil leak incident in Rayong very closely. The visit was meant to ensure complete clearance of oil slicks around Ao Phrao (Phrao Bay), Ko Samet (Samet Island), and meet community members and business operators, while establishing confidence and stressing PTT’s sincerity in pursuing continuous remedial work. Mr. Chuchottaworn said that in order to obtain direct input about the impacts from the people and operators for PTT’s integrated remedial measures (short-term and long-term), PTT Group has supported Rayong Provincial Administration in the around-the-clock management of a notification center for the remediation of those affected by the incident, located at the Le Vimarn Cottages and Spa, Ao Phrao. This way, all four groups affected—namely hotel operators, shops, and resorts; fishermen; those whose health were affected; and those affected in other ways—may personally apply for help even though the community relations team had scoured the affected areas to lay down effective remedial plans. In addition, to integrate implementation of this remedial plan, PTT Group has cooperated with a tripartite remedial panel appointed by Rayong Provincial Administration (consisting of the public and private sectors and those affected) to ensure coverage of economic, social, and environmental aspects. PTT Group confirms its intention to restore the natural beauty and attraction of Ko Samet as a leading tourist attraction of the Eastern Region forever. Mr. Chuchottaworn concluded, “I offer my sincere apology once again and thank all sectors (the Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Rayong governmental agencies, Royal Thai Navy, Royal Thai Police, Rayong Provincial Administration, local administrative organizations, private volunteer corps, and all volunteers) for having mobilized assistance to date, as well as for their continuing future assistance.
