Bangkok--9 Aug--AIP Foundation
Siam Solvay Foundation (SSF), Solvay Group’s foundation has been established to promote and provide suitable welfare to children in Thailand, cooperates with the Asia Injury Prevention (AIP) Foundation to educate and increase helmet use in order to reduce road traffic injuries among child motorcycle passengers in Rayong province. This year, students and teachers at Wat Prachum Mitr Bumrung School in Rayong province were the recipients of 238 helmets with helmet usage education to bring the safety on road for children in Map Ta Phut area.
Prachum Mitr is one of 14 small communities in Banchang, Rayong Province, which is Solvay’s neighborhood. Wat Prachum Mitr Bumrung School is located near Solvay’s plants in Map Ta Phut on Sukhumvit Road where students commute to and from school through gates that are not visible from the road, leaving them in danger of road traffic crashes. This danger is more harmful by the fact that students do not wear helmets.
“We’re delighted to be a part of AIP Foundation’s Helmets for Kids program to decrease the accident rate among children in Thailand,” said Siriporn Wutthilaohaphan, the Chairwoman of Siam Solvay Foundation. “Banchang is our home, and the children here are our future. We must protect their potential.”
“Research demonstrates that helmet use can reduce the risk of death by 42 percent and injury by 69 percent in a crash,” said Ratanawadee Winther, AIP Foundation Country Director. “In Thailand, where more than14,000 lives were lost to road traffic injuries in 2011, widespread helmet use could save countless lives.”
