Mr. Surong Bulakul, Chairman of Thailand-Malaysia Business Council, and Mr. MegatMizan Nicholas, Co-Chairman, Malaysia-Thailand Business Council, announced the meeting result of“THE 1ST JOINT TMBC-MTBC COUNCIL MEETING” that the meeting has agreed on the joint economic cooperation framework in various issues especially the cross-borders logistics/transportation, trade facilitating, and commodity trading such as rubber, palm oil, as well as promoting the halal food industry.
Mr. Surong revealed that TMBC was just established this year in accordance to the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the proposed development by private sector in the joint border area signed by Prime Minister YingluckShinawatra of Thailand and Prime Minister Dato’ Sri MohdNajib bin Tun Abdul Razak of Malaysia. The joint cooperation on business and economic development by the private sector of the two countries include energy, alternative energy, rubber, palm oil, as well as to promote tourist industry and SMEs.
He said that this meeting was a good start in seeking opportunities for mutual benefits of the two sides particularly on trades, investments, and technologies. The 1st Joint TMBC-MTBC Meeting also agreed to push forward cross-border trade and logistics under the ASEAN Logistics Connectivity and to propose solutions for existing barriers and obstacles on goods loading and etc.
Chairman of TMBC added that there were high-ranking and well-recognized delegates from both the private and public sectors of Thai and Malaysia joining the event such as Mr. BhanumasSrisuk, Chairman, Logistic Development Committee, The Board of Trade of Thailand, and Mr. Tan Sri Michael Yeoh, Secretary General, MTBC and CEO of Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute, were together discussed on logistics under ASEAN Connectivity framework while Mr. ArinJira, Vice Chairman, The Federation of Thai Industries, and Mr. Tan Sri Dato’ IrMdRadziMansor, Chairman of Kumpulan Fima Bhd. shared their views on Trade Facilitation.
