Bangkok--28 Aug--TCELS
The Ministry of Science and Technology in collaboration with its alliances introduces new service of TCELS Hotline Center for the public. The center will provide quick and easy access to information and update on the world’ life sciences for researchers, industrial manufacturers and entrepreneurs. Data on research studies, industrial manufacturing and investment as well as advice on patent registration, a request for manufacture of products about life sciences are also given all under one roof.
Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS) led by director Dr. Nares Damrongchai, along with their supporters announces today its new service of one-stop service for information about life sciences. Its alliances include the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Industry, the Federation of Industries, Office of Industrial Economics, The Thai Medical Device Technology Industry Association, the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) and Thai Research (http://www.thairesearch.in.th)
The center, Dr. Nares said, is developed to gather knowledge and data on research development about life sciences and to encourage creation of products and services on life sciences that have generated industrial and commercial values to the country.
Today, there are the number of industrial manufacturers, researchers, and entrepreneurs who are interested in life sciences.
Last year, according to Dr. Nares, the life science industry generated about 100 billion baht to the country. And the industry is expected to enjoy steady growth in the future. The growth, he noted, has resulted from the government’s financial support plan, policy of research personnel support, an increase on research and development expenses to 1% of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and launch of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
The industry, however, has faced the challenges. One of them is accessibility of useful information that needs for strategic business planning. There was no official center that offered information and data on life sciences. While information from different sources has confused entrepreneurs and investors. And that prevents them from making the most of their investment and business opportunity.
“Well, an inability to access to useful information has caused a real bottleneck,” said Mr Nares. “We feel the need for development of an official center.”
According to him, information and data on life sciences will be provided via TCELS hotline number 02 644 5499 and website www.tcels.org. The public will be also given with data on research studies conducted by Thai researchers, business data in many fields collected by the Ministry of Commerce, data on entrepreneurs. This information and data is necessary for investors and entrepreneurs’ decision on investment and business operation. Plus, advice on investment in life science business, application of patent as well as services of medical device analysis and testing is also on offer.
“We believe that our center is a treasure trove of information and data on life sciences. Importantly, it connects organizations and people in the field both local and international levels to work hand in hand for better business development in the future. On top of that, the center would be a new rendezvous for researchers and investors who can work together on new product development and new business projects and for new business partners as well as academics who are keen on technology,” Dr. Nares said.
The director continued new investors or entrepreneurs can also take advantage of the center’s information on consultation, application of patents, registration of new products and services, BOI’s promotional investment program, a tax exemption and training program for the excellence in standard laboratory development and related projects operated by TCELS.
He noted the ASEAN Life Sciences Conference & Exhibition 2013 arranged in late July was successful. The event received a lot of attention from potential investors and entrepreneurs who asked for additional information on life science products and services as well as research studies.“We have always improved database on our website to ensure that the public get the most recent information and updates on life sciences. So, all you want to know about life sciences, we have it on our website. Please go to at www.tcels.org.” he said
