The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), together with public and private sector units, has announced the winners of The Diamond Crown in Economics: Nern Tong Kong-Mee Ka and Sufficiency Economic Philosophy contest for 2013, with Ittichute Amornjiraporn from Mahidol Wittayanusorn school receiving the HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Cup.
This annual contest, organized for the fifth consecutive year, aims to lay a strong foundation of economics, personal finance, insurance, and the sufficiency economy philosophy among youth and is one of the SET's social activities to enhance education and learning for the young generation. In preparation for this year’s contest, participants were given insights to the upcoming ASEAN Economic Community through exhibitions and seminars.
This year's competition, held on August. 31-September 1, attracted a record high of 4,558 candidates from 1,008 schools nationwide, with Kittiratt Na Ranong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, giving the keynote speech, “Human development: The way to success in the AEC era.” Students, teachers, and other participants also took part in a seminar and viewed an exhibition.
SET President Charamporn Jotikasthira said that the competition continued to draw overwhelming attention from schools and students nationwide, because what they learned from participating gave them a solid foundation for sustained learning that helped ensure their lifelong financial security.
The four gold medalists were: Settawut Worapan from Suteetorn Kindergarten (junior primary school level); Kredsiri Sompbong from Ratchburi Kindergarten (senior primary school level); Athikom Wanichkul from Panyarat High School (junior high school level); and Ittichute Amornjiraporn from Mahidol Wittayanusorn school (high school level). In addition to a gold medal, each person was awarded a certificate, scholarship worth THB10,000 and instruction media offered by SET. The winner in the high school level also received the HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Cup and prizes worth about THB one million.
Given the contest’s success in attracting 10,193 students from 3,086 schools nationwide over the last four competitions, SET will extend the contest to university students as well, a contest held in Chulalongkorn University’s Economic Faculty on September 8, 2013. This year’s competition was also sponsored by The Capital Market Development Fund Foundation; CPF Trading Co., Ltd.; The Crown Property Bureau, National Office of Buddhism, Nongpho Dairy Co-operative Ltd., Office of the Basic Education Commission, Romchatra Foundation, Satree Wittaya School II, the Treasury Department, and Thai Life Assurance Association.
