A sixty-strong team of nature lovers from the KEE Resort & Spa in Patong joined local school children on Friday to replenish Phuket's mangrove forests with 500 new trees.
Led by KEE Resort managing director, Mr Surasak Somnam, the green-fingered hotel staff and about 30 students from Verastreeanusorn School planted the 500 mangrove sapling in Pak Klock on the east coast of the island.
The mangrove preservation project has been established to educate visitors and give them hands on experience in looking after the environment. A wide variety of wildlife, including macaque (crab-eating monkeys), exclusively inhabits the mangroves, which are also a natural barrier against coastal erosion.“The KEE Resort mangrove planting expedition was a wonderful way to reach out to the local community and give something back to the environment,” said Mr Somnam.
“We pride ourselves on being one of Patong's most environmentally conscientious resorts with a green initiative to encourage staff and guests to play their part in reducing our impact on the environment,” he said.
