The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Foundation honors and encourages philanthropic acts of individuals and organizations through its annual “Social Recognition Project” in seven areas, with this year’s award from the Vimuttayalaya Foundation for urban social development, sponsored by SET, being granted to Phan Pankum for his contributions to organic agriculture.
This award is one of seven areas, given to persons selected by seven organizations, recognizing the individuals concerned, and is one of SET’s corporate social responsibility projects. This project identifies, honors, and inspires those benefiting society and encouraging others to follow in their footsteps.
Charamporn Jotikasthira, director and secretary of the SET Foundation, said that the Foundation grants awards annually since 2007 to organizations that contribute to society. The Vimuttayalaya Foundation is one of the organizations receiving funds to conduct activities for social development. The Foundation then awards these funds to the person in that year it feels best exemplifies its key mission, which is to develop society and the environment for living in harmony with Buddhist principles.
Phramaha Vudhijaya Vajiramedhi, chairman of the Vimuttayalaya Foundation, said that the award is for those at all levels of society who sacrifice themselves for the well-being of others without expecting any returns. This year’s award went to Phan Pankum, who has dedicated himself for more than ten years to promote organic agriculture as the preferred source for healthy food.
The awardees chosen by the other six organizations will be announced soon. These organizations are the Football History Association of Thailand; the Population and Community Development Association; the Professor Sangvian Indaravijaya Foundation; the Sugree Charoensook Foundation; the Thai Library Association, and Duang Prateep Foundation.
The SET realizes the importance of CSR and has incorporated social responsibility as a major part of its vision.
