The SEC and alliances vow to boost financial literacy

Bangkok--24 Sep--SEC The SEC jointly with 13 alliances today signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to implement the “Financial Literacy: Road to Thailand’s Prosperity” project which aims to raise public awareness in personal finance, retirement savings, accessibility to suitable financial products and services and investor right and protection. The 14 alliances include the SEC, the Office of Insurance Commission (OIC), the Social Security Office (SSO), the Government Pension Fund (GPF), the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), the Federation of Thai Capital Market Organizations (FETCO), The Thai Bond Market Association (ThaiBMA), the National Credit Bureau (NCB), the Association of Thai Securities Companies (ASCO), the Association of Investment Management Companies (AIMC), The Thai Investors Association (TIA), the Thai Listed Companies Association (TLCA), the Thai Financial Planners Association (TFPA), and the Securities Analysts Association (SAA). SEC Secretary-General Vorapol Socatiyanurak said, “The SEC and 13 alliances determine to supervise and develop financial products and services under their respective jurisdictions to improve the quality of life through saving discipline, financial and investment education, financial planning and fundamental knowledge on risk management.” The MOU signing aims to promote the exchange of information and action plans on knowledge management, experiences and outcomes of financial and investment education as well as risk management. The cooperation will also address the contents and communication to target groups, integrated cooperation and redundancy reduction, as well as effective information management. This would ultimately propel target groups’ knowledge and healthy financial habits. Mr. Vorapol added that “The cooperation and resources from various organizations are definitely a key success factor to achieve the higher level of financial literacy among the public. We trust that the collective action of 14 leading public and private organizations to promote financial literacy will drive a good fortune for Thailand’s prosperity in the long run.”
