Bangkok--26 Sep--AIT An advanced electronic monitoring device developed by Dr. Mongkol Ekpanyapong of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) School of Engineering and Technology (SET) was one of five technologies presented by Thailand’s National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) at its Investors' Day 2013 held recently (12 September). AIT’s Vehicle Watch System (V-Watch), an intelligent, automated car-watching system, was chosen for the multiple applications it offers investors. Featuring a highly-efficient shadow-erasing system, V-Watch possesses a security feature to store and document visual evidence in the form of high-resolution photos or short video clips, and is equipped with an OCR system for reading automobiles’ license plates. It can report online and in real-time. Dr. Mongkol’s creation is funded by NSTDA and is considered a joint technology with AIT. Each partner shares the intellectual property (IP) and patent rights, he said. The Microelectronics and Embedded Systems field of study faculty member describes his invention as having numerous applications. It is a flexible system that can adjust to users’ requirements, he said, such as for monitoring and enforcing vehicular traffic, creating intelligent parking, or automated vehicle counting in warehouses or at large parking facilities. At the event in Bangkok, businesses and entrepreneurs were invited to license the showcased products and technologies. Overall, the exhibition featured 40 home-grown inventions from various technological fields, NSTDA officials said. NSTDA Investors’ Day on September 12 was aimed to uplift the standard of Thailand’s technology and innovation industry. Organizers said the event was in line with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s policy to strengthen Thailand’s society and economy by uplifting the country’s potential in science and research.
