Bangkok--1 Oct--SET
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Foundation supports the Sugree Charoensook Award, which this year was granted by the Sugree Charoensook Foundation to Tongsai Tubtanon for his musical talent in initiating usage of the Thai folk electric guitar to preserve Thai culture heritage, as part of SET’s annual Social Recognition Project to honor and encourage philanthropic acts of individuals and organizations.
This award is in one of seven areas, recognizing persons selected by seven organizations, and is one of SET’s corporate social responsibility projects. This project identifies, honors, and inspires those benefiting society and encourages others to follow in their footsteps.
Bordin Unakul, director and treasurer of the SET Foundation, said that the SET Foundation has been granting awards annually since 2007 to organizations that contribute to society. The Sugree Charoensook Foundation is committed to support music as a tool to entertain society and as a profession by conducting music activities for youth, elderly, and disadvantaged persons. It also supports folk artists who are a valued heritage of Thai society, as shown by its giving an award to Tongsai Tubtanon, the country’s top Thai folk electric guitarist, to honor and encourage his commitment to entertain and build pride in Thai culture.
Sugree Charoensook, chairman of the foundation named after him, said that the SET Foundation has given his foundation the chance to assist the disadvantaged, hill tribes, and upcountry children to sing and play music, enabling them to develop their physical and mental potential and live harmoniously in society. Granting the award to Tongsai Tubtanon, who is a role model in preserving Thai cultural heritage for the next generation, proclaimed the country’s pride in having unique music talent and instrument.
The awardees chosen by the other four organizations will be announced soon. The seven organizations in this project are the Football History Association of Thailand; the Population and Community Development Association; the Professor Sangvian Indaravijaya Foundation; the Sugree Charoensook Foundation; the Thai Library Association. The award for the Vimuttayalaya Foundation was granted to Phan Pankum for his contribution to organic agriculture, and the Duang Prateep award was granted to Police Lieutenant Colonel Somkiat Seemakupt for his commitment to fighting drugs, including protecting residents from drugs.
The SET realizes the importance of CSR and has incorporated social responsibility as a major part of its vision.
