Bangkok--2 Oct--Grayling (Thailand) A team of 20 FedEx Express (FedEx) employees recently joined representatives from the Plant a Tree Today Foundation to plant 200 native tree seedlings at the Nong Hoi Royal Project Development Center (NHRPDC). The tree seedlings were donated by FedEx Express, a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and the world’s largest express transportation company, as part of the FedEx Cares Week, an annual initiative where FedEx employees in 11 Asia Pacific markets participate in community projects between September 7-15. Commenting on the tree planting, Narongsak Chanchue, said, “My FedEx colleagues and I enjoyed the chance to plant 200 trees in a beautiful and important part of Chiang Mai. It was a great way to contribute to a forestation program that is part of a successful royal project supporting many local families.” Mr David Carden, managing director, FedEx Express, Thailand and Indochina added, “Our tree planting in Chiang Mai is a good example of FedEx people power in action. It continues our FedEx Cares Week track record of contributing to communities across Thailand, where we have built playgrounds, cleaned up parks, painted schools and much more, over the years.” Established in 1986, the NHRPDC was created under a royal project to help hill tribe poppy farmers convert their land to grow produce. Today, it one of the biggest producers of vegetables under the royal project scheme, as well as being a popular agro and eco-tourism site. The Nong Hoi tree planting is the fourth FedEx Cares Week sustainability program to be run in Thailand. Previous FedEx volunteer-led plantings have been held in Pra Pradaeng, Samut Prakarn, Mae Na Pak and Khao Yai. Across Asia Pacific, more than 1,000 FedEx volunteers supported FedEx Cares Week initiatives this year. Since FedEx Cares Week first launched in the U.S. in 2005, it has expanded to more than 40 countries and territories around the globe.
