The Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ)todayunveiled plans for itsinaugural international forum,“The Bangkok Dialogue on the Rule of Law: Investing in the Rule of Law for the Post-2015 Development Agenda”to be held onFriday, 15November 2013 at the Siam Kempinski Hotel. HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Mahidohl will preside overthe event as keynote speaker, along with world leaders and global experts,includingH.E.YingluckShinawatra - Prime Minister of Thailand, H.E.Ellen Johnson Sirleaf - President of Liberia, Dr. Jos? Ramos-Horta- former President of East Timor, Yuri Fedotov - Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, and Professor the Hon.Gareth Evans - former Foreign Minister of Australia.
The eventaims to generatewide-ranging discussion between world leaders and global experts on the importance of the rule of law, justice and security for achieving sustainable development, poverty reduction and peaceful societies. It seeks to build international support to establish rule of law-related goalsand targets in the United Nations Post-2015 Development Agenda.
As a flagship event of the TIJ in collaboration with Royal Thai Government,with key support from the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “TheBangkok Dialogue on the Rule of Law”will further seek to raise awareness among the Thai population of the various ways the rule of law affects their well-being and daily life.
In a demonstration of the Royal Thai Government’s support for this important event, a National Organizing Committee has been established for “The Bangkok Dialogue on the Rule of Law”, which consists of high-level representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, Ministry of Justice, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs alongside the TIJ.
Diplomatic corps, national and international correspondents, civil society leaders and justice administrators will be invited to attend “The Bangkok Dialogue”, with a live stream for the public and other interested parties to view from the event’s website at www.bangkokdialogue.org.
