Bangkok--7 Nov--Nadia-K Cadson Demak, Thai design firm, to joint hand with the Goethe Institute Bangkok for - the Bangkok International Typography Symposium (BITS 2013) which will take place in the fourth week of November. The conference is designed to promote the use of typography as a tool for enhancing corporate and brand identities in the fast growing regional market; as well as to help provide Thai professionals and students in the design industry with exciting international perspectives on the world of typography and font design. Anuthin Wongsankakon, managing director of Cadson Demak, explained the role of typography in the rapidly evolving regional market: “Southeast Asia is home to a diversity of languages and cultures. Modern typographical design has become an essential tool for helping businesses in the region in establishing images or identities for their brands that sort of transcend cultural boundaries, enabling them to communicate more effectively. Good typography can help a business to integrate and align its marketing communications towards achieving a unified image for any brand… “In Thailand, professional designers and academia in recent years have helped to stimulate and advance the art of typography to a new level. Changes for the better can now be seen in the areas of font usage and growth of the font making industry. Font piracy is much less a practice today, while use of customized fonts by major corporations is on the increase with a market more than doubling in size. When we first produced our first set of customized fonts for AIS in year 2000, the market for this type of service was non-existent. Today many big businesses are regularly commissioning designs of their own font identities, such as big telecom operators, banks and finance companies, and vendors of consumer goods.” In a move to advance Thailand towards the goal of being a regional hub of typography and font-making business, Cadson Demak and the Bangkok Goethe Institute are organizing the BITS 2013, the third in its series. The event will serve as a forum for professional type designers, art students, and interested parties, to participate in a series of trade talks, workshops and related activities. BITS Participants will gain new international perspectives in font development and type composition, touch base with new trends and technologies for Thai digital font design, and have the opportunity to exchange ideas with their fellow type designers in Thailand and from abroad.
