Thai bourse grants rural social development award

Bangkok--7 Nov--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Foundation honors and encourages philanthropic acts of individuals and organizations through its annual "Social Recognition Project" in seven areas, with this year's award from the Population and Community Development Association (PDA) for rural social development, sponsored by SET, being granted to Hug Muang Nan Foundation and Institute for Sustainable Agriculture Community (ISAC) of Chiang Mai province. This award recognizes organizations selected by PDA, and is one of SET's corporate social responsibility projects. The Social Recognition Project identifies, honors, and inspires those benefiting society and encourages others to follow in their footsteps. Bordin Unakul, Director and Treasurer of the SET Foundation said: “The SET Foundation has been granting these awards annually since 2007 to organizations and persons that contribute to society. We are proud to support the PDA because for 40 years it has carried out its mission to upgrade the quality of life for disadvantaged people. We believe that working to develop these organizations will strengthen them and expand their benefit throughout Thai society and the economy.” Mechai Viravaidya, Chairman of PDA, said that SET Foundation’s Social Recognition Project has created happiness and confidence in Thai society, and other organizations should have this kind of campaign also. This year’s recipients These organizations should strongly lead and drive the society for ding good and building process of cooperation for rural social development sustainability further. Hug Muang Nan Foundation is a local organization that empowers the Nan natives so that they can manage their social, cultural, and environmental activities themselves, thus developing their community’s potential and maintaining their culture.. ISAC, under the NorthNet Foundation, Chiang Mai province, promotes using organic agriculture for agricultural sustainability and promotes a market system that is fair to farmers in Chiang Mai and neighboring provinces. Of the seven awards, four have now been announced: the award for the Vimuttayalaya Foundation was granted to Phan Pankum for his contribution to organic agriculture; the Duang Prateep award was granted to Police Lieutenant Colonel Somkiat Seemakupt for his commitment to fighting drugs, including protecting residents from drugs; and The Sugree Charoensook Award was granted to Tongsai Tubtanon for his musical talent in initiating usage of the Thai folk electric guitar to preserve the Thai cultural heritage. The awardees chosen by the other three organizations, which are the Football History Association of Thailand, the Professor Sangvian Indaravijaya Foundation, and the Thai Library Association will be announced soon. The SET realizes the importance of CSR and has incorporated social responsibility as a major part of its vision.
