AIT is very important for this region, says Chinese embassy official

Bangkok--27 Nov--Asian Institute of Technology The mission of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) to help support development in Asian countries is commendable and AIT is very important for this region. These were the remarks of Mr. Zhou Gaoyu, First Secretary (Education), Embassy of the People’s Republic of China during a visit to AIT on 22 November 2013. Mr. Zhou, who was visiting AIT for the first time, expressed his happiness at visiting AIT stating that the Institute has a long history of cooperation with China. He stated that he would be talking to the China Scholarship Council (CSC) to ensure optimum utilization of its scholarships to AIT. Mr. Zhou stated that internationality is an important criterion in China, and AIT is rightly positioned in this aspect. Welcoming the visitor, Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Interim President, AIT expressed his gratitude at the support of the Chinese government in AIT. He remarked that AIT was established as an independent autonomous institution with Thailand as the host country. AIT has been receiving support from various countries, and China has been a prominent partner, Prof. Worsak added. The Interim President also expressed his desire to strengthen the AIT-China partnership and suggested the opening of Confucius Institute at AIT. Dr. Donyaprueth Krairit, Interim Dean, AIT School of Management highlighted that AIT used to organize study trips to companies in Shanghai and Beijing, and that the School is now trying to revive them. Prof. Jayant Kumar Routray of School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) remarked that AIT was ideally placed to train students to tackle the challenges of development in Asia. Dr. Gregory L.F. Chiu, Professor of Practice, AIT highlighted the role played by AIT alumni in their respective countries. Later the delegation also participated in the AIT Food Fair.
