The 12AYis the latest of Yanmar Marine product line, built from the everlasting philosophy of Yanmar Marine, “Developing more power for less weight”. The new V cylinder block configuration offers improved rigidity compared to previous models, with inspection ports, providing easy access to connecting rod assemblies. The maintenance is much easier and faster. It is also carefully designed and built for special purposes. Its light weight, easy installation, simple maintenance, excellent fuel consumption, impressive durability and environmental friendliness make it an ideal choice for offshore support vessels, ferries, tugs commercial fishing crafts and other demanding applications. This 12AY series has type approval by six major classification societies, which is in compliant with the latest IMO Tier II emissions regulations.

So outstandingly, Yammer is capable of achieving this IMO Tier II emission control level simply by its simple, but thoughtful mechanical engine control system, whereas our competitors have to implement electronic control to accomplish the same level of emissions. The 12AY is a 40L, 12-cylinder turbo-charged diesel engine, available in five power ratings across three models:
- 12AYM-WST produces 1,200 mhp (882 kW) @ 1,850 rpm and 1,400 mhp (1,030 kW) @1,900 rpm
- 12AYM-WET produces 1,550 mhp (1,140 kW) @ 1,840 rpm and 1,659 mhp (1,220 kW) @ 1,900 rpm
- 12AYM-WGT produces 1,822 mhp (1,340 kW) @ 1,940 rpm
At present the 12AY series are being put into operation in many neighboring countries around Thailand such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Australia, and Bangladesh as well as in the Middles east like United Arab Emirates.
