Over Baht 157,000 raised from school-wide activities donated to Habitat for Humanity Philippines
The entire school community at Bangkok Prep rallied together and joined in the various fundraising events that included a bake sale, a lemonade and popcorn stand, T-shirt sales, and face painting of Philippine images and colors by Filipino families to raise funds for the Philippines’ Typhoon Haiyan victims.
The week-long activities kicked off with a photo exhibit showing the devastation and havoc caused by the typhoon. Donations were collected from the no-uniform day activity where students were requested to dress in blue or white casual clothes in lieu of their uniforms. Other activities included Battle of the Baht and a demonstration of “Pinoy” or traditional Filipino street games by Filipino families at the school.
The week ended with bake and drink sales and a karaoke showdown on Songs of Hope, where parents and students sang songs with messages of inspiration and strength for victims of typhoon Haiyan.
A total of THB157,661.50 was raised and handed over to HE Mrs Joceyln Batoon-Garcia, the Philippine Ambassador to Thailand, who will donate this to Habitat for Humanity Philippines to provide basic necessities and resources in rebuilding homes for the typhoon victims.
“It was heart-warming to see the outpouring efforts and generosity of each member of Bkk Prep’s community as well as the extraordinary display of teamwork in putting together this remarkable fundraising event,” said Mr Keith Wecker, headmaster of Bangkok Prep.
