Studying œnology in Bordeaux, he cultivated his admiration for the Rhône Valley, particularly interested in the Syrah grape. He began in the wine industry by opening, in the eighties, a consulting cabinet with his wife, Anne, under the name: Le Centre Écologique de Côte du Rhône (The Ecological Center of Côte du Rhône). Thus, convinced by the great potential of the northern Rhône appellation of Cornas for producing stellar quality Syrah, he purchased his own vineyards first there, in 1986. Thereafter, he extended his vineyards to the whole Rhône Valley region, the Languedoc region, and Marseille (Southern France). And it was only in 1994 that he established Vins Jean-Luc Colombo, making him one of France’s most talented and creative winemakers, exporting his wines in more than 50 countries. He is now highly successful as a winemaker, a consultant, and as a trader. Vins Jean-Luc Colombo Each Jean-Luc Colombo wine is highly personalized sourced from Colombo’s own vineyards and from carefully selected domains under his direct consultation. Since 2012, their wines have been officially recognized as organic, even if they have been producing their wines since the beginning following their guiding principle: Show respect for nature and the unique qualities of each and every terroir. By using manual picking, bark mulch and horsepower, banning the use of pesticides in their vineyards, they encourage the natural biodiversity.
