Korea and Thailand jointly proposed to establish the APEC-AUTM (Association University Technology Managers) Bio-Medical Technology Commercialization Training Center to LSIF (Life Sciences of Innovation Forum) during SOM 1. The proposal has just been endorsed by LSIF on 22 February 2014 and no question it will be endorsed at the high level of APEC.
Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences (TCELS) led by CEO Dr.Nares Damrongchai said , the main purpose of the center is to develop and strengthen the capacity in technology commercialization for professionals from APEC member economies (ASEAN as well). It is the Public-Private Partnership initiative among Korea by KHIDI (The Korea Health Industry Development Institute) Thailand by TCELS, and AUTM
Next step, the collaborative approach will be proposed to AUTM as Korea is the coordinating center, while Thailand is the regional implementation center with AUTM providing up-to-date contents for training, and strategic direction for center operation will be supported by APEC LSIF said Dr.Nares
According to Dr.Nares ,The tentative timeline for 2014 is to plan for in-depth collaboration between Korea, Thailand and AUTM as well as to set up the center. The pilot training workshop is scheduled to be held in Korea in November 2014.
