Bangkok--21 Mar--Grant Thornton Grant Thornton welcomes a new member firm in Myanmar which will begin trading as Grant Thornton Advisory Services. The new firm will be led by Clayton Hebbard, who is responsible for advising foreign investors entering the market, structuring investments and providing practical advisory services. The firm’s initial focus will be on the delivery of tax and advisory services, which includes business risk services, corporate finance, forensic and investigations, recovery and reorganisation, as well as outsourcing services. Over the next 12 months the firm will expand its scope of services and increase the number of staff. As part of the Grant Thornton global network, the firm also has access to the expertise and experience of over 38,500 people in over 120 countries. The firm also places heavy emphasis on nurturing future leaders and has plans to implement a people development programme, which will offer graduates and interns audit and tax training opportunities. Clayton Hebbard, managing partner of Grant Thornton Myanmar said, “I am very excited about the establishment of our firm in Myanmar. This country is one of the few economies in the world capable of massive growth through its underdeveloped economy, reform agenda, sizeable natural resources, and increasingly well-educated and optimistic citizenry of 53 million. There are many local businesses looking for professional advice as they seek to grow.” Clayton continued, “We see huge market potential in Myanmar. Combining deep local expertise in the region and around the globe with world class methodologies, systems and client services, our highly experienced and respected partners and their teams are capable of providing quality and professional services, helping dynamic organisations to grow within and outside the country.” Ian Pascoe, managing partner in Thailand was at the launch and commented, “Many of our clients in Thailand have expressed an interest in doing business in Myanmar, especially given the progress of the ASEAN economic community (AEC) and associated trade agreements. With our presence throughout ASEAN we can give our clients a valuable perspective from around the region, but delivered locally by our skilled experts.” Nigel Ruddock, Grant Thornton International Ltd global leader - advisory services, explains, “Grant Thornton has long been committed to an integrated approach to serving clients across the ASEAN region, including the fast growing market in Myanmar. The appointment of Grant Thornton Advisory Services is a vital step in that strategy and our member firms look forward to working with their new colleagues in Myanmar."
