Bangkok--4 Apr--Sumisho Global Logistics
Sumisho Global Logistics (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “SGL”), a logistics subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation, has established a new logistics center (hereinafter, “Prachinburi Branch”) at 304 Industrial Park in Prachinburi Province, Thailand. With the aim of expanding the distribution business in Thailand, Prachinburi Branch commenced the grand opening ceremony on March 27, 2014.
The site for the new logistics center is located at the entrance to northeastern Thailand in Prachinburi Province, a locale garnering attention as the next largest industrial complex after the huge cluster in the Rayong/ Chonburi area. New economic zones known as border economic regions continue to be established in the vicinity of the Thai-Cambodian border, and Prachinburi Province, about 120 km from the Cambodian border, is thus expected to see further expansion as these economic regions develop. At the same time, there are still only a few companies offering logistics services in this province so, by opening its latest integrated distribution center in Prachinburi Province, SGL is seeking to enhance its logistics network in Thailand and provide logistics services to Japanese companies in Cambodia.
Indochina has seen vigorous investment in recent years in the area known as GMS (Greater Mekong Sub-region). Investment has also continued to grow in Thailand, situated at the heart of the GMS, with direct investment in 2012 up 63% year-on-year. Sumitomo Corporation’s recently purchased site lies in an area connected to the Southern Economic Corridor linking Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand, enabling it to become an important facility for intra-regional logistics in Indochina.
Sumisho Global Logistics (Thailand) Co., Ltd. was established in 1989, and has provided comprehensive logistics primarily to the electrical and electronics industry via operations centered on the Navanakorn Industrial Estate. In the early 2000s, two branches were opened in Chonburi Province, including Laem Chabang and Amata Nakorn Branches, to further support the burgeoning automobile, steel and construction machinery industries. At present, total warehouse capacity operated by SGL is 85,895 m2.
