Helps Thai rural children by providing financial support for free surgeries to infants and children born with cleft lip and palate problems.
CapitaLand’s wholly-owned serviced residence unit, The Ascott Limited (Ascott) in Thailand has raised 191,000 Baht at its Ascott’s eight serviced residences and hotel in Bangkok. The donation will uplift the quality of life of more than 30 infants and children with cleft lips and palates problems.
Each year, Thai Red Cross Society’s Relief and Community Health Bureau conduct 5 community medical outreaches to bring much needed care to over 300 children in Thailand’s rural areas. Since its establishment in 2001, the Bureau has helped more than 4,000 children to improve their oral health and provide a better quality of life.
Today, besides the surgical cleft lip and palate repairs, the Relief and Community Health Bureau has also provided additional medical relief and assistance to the underprivileged by way of their specialized medical mobile units which provide projects covering, eyes, ear nose and throat surgery, hearing loss, mobile dental clinic, elderly assistance, and optical glass projects.
Mr Jean Keijdener, Ascott’s Country General Manager for Thailand, said: “Each year thousands of babies in the Kingdom of Thailand are born with cleft lips and palate problems. Because of their defect, they are often abandoned at birth. The cure is a simple surgical procedure that takes only a short amount of time and can cost as little as 4,900 Baht. Our contributions will give a hopeful start towards a brighter future to these young children who otherwise may be left alone and shamed.”
This is the third consecutive year that Ascott has supported the Thai Red Cross Society. In 2012 and 2013, Ascott has donated 250,000 Baht a year to Thai Red Cross Children’s Home, making a total of 691,000 Baht donated to an organization under the Thai Red Cross Society.
