Bangkok--9 Apr--FYI Bangkok SongkranBantathai Festival Saturday, April 12 to Wednesday, April 16, 11 am to 5pm Families are being invited to celebrate and preserve the Songkran Festival, or Thai New Year, at TK park with a string of entertaining activities ­ - Learn a miscellany of tidbits about the refreshing water festival ­ - Attend a cooking class designed for children to make Thai sweetmeats and enjoy folk games. ­ - Slip into traditional Thai dresses from a bygone era like jongkraben (the old-fashioned draped, loose pantaloon-style trousers) and sabai (embroidered shoulder cloth). ­ - Check out a series of performances by children and others. ­ - Mark the Songkran Festival with a Buddhist ceremony to bathe Buddha images as a symbol of luck and pay respect to the elderly in a ritual called "rodnam dam hua", during which scented water is poured onto the hands of the elderly who then offer blessings to the younger people.
