- Award showcases Ericsson’s innovation in enabling video smart networks, responding to growing consumer demand for TV Anywhere
- LTE broadcast solution transforms the costs and efficiency of delivering high quality TV and video experiences over mobile networks
- TV Connect Award is the fifth major industry accolade for Ericsson’s LTE Broadcast solution
Ericsson announced that it has won a TV Connect Award for the company’s LTE Broadcast solution in the ’Best TV on the Move Service’ category. Research from Ericsson’s 2013 Mobility Report found that mobile data traffic is predicted to grow 10 fold by the end of 2019, a spike which will be driven principally by online video. Meeting the consumer demand for TV Anywhere, on any device, Ericsson’s end-to-end LTE broadcast solution revolutionizes video delivery in mobile networks, enabling operators to efficiently launch media services over LTE.
This award continues Ericsson’s heritage of success at the TV Connect Awards. The awards were presented at a gala ceremony, held in London 2014.
Camilla Vautier, President of Ericsson Thailand, said: "I’m exceptionally proud that our LTE Broadcast solution has once again been recognized for excellence. The industry is in the midst of a global shift towards mobility and we see LTE Broadcast as crucial in enabling high quality of video experience as this happens. Ericsson’s LTE Broadcast solution takes full advantage of our unique background and expertise in wireless and video compression, enabling operators to meet the challenges created by growth of video traffic in LTE networks, and generate new revenue streams by offering new services for mobile operators."
Ericsson’s LTE Broadcast solution combines three standards: eMBMS (Evolved Multimedia Broadcast and Mulitcast Service), HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) and MPEG Dash. It ensures a high-quality user experience while optimizing use of spectrum by broadcasting video traffic over a single data stream. This allows an unlimited number of enabled users in the broadcast area to receive the content. This is ideal for high density environments like sports stadiums and public venues where subscriber density can reach really high levels and where broadcasting content is the best way to ensure a consistent and reliable user experience.
It offers mobile network operators a profitable business proposition through service differentiation, new revenue opportunities, and more efficient distribution of live and other digital media, as well as increasing brand value for content owners. By enabling operators to monetize premium content over mobile networks, Ericsson’s LTE Broadcast solution guarantees the high quality delivery of TV and video content to consumers anywhere, across any device.
Ericsson’s LTE Broadcast supports a range of use cases including live events for sports and concerts, digital signage for pushing out advertisement content on a broad number of screens in taxis, on billboards and public displays, and for software updates and emergency broadcasting.
Ericsson’s consultants and system integrators provide the competence required in technical, operations and business areas to deliver an end-to-end solution for the successful launch of innovative video offerings. Ericsson’s LTE Broadcast solution was first announced by Ericsson at Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, in 2013, and the company is continuing its work with leading operators to explore the solution’s huge business potential.
