Sands® Macao celebrated its 10th anniversary Sunday by inviting over 300 children and families from some of Macao’s underprivileged groups to the Sands Ballroom for an entertainment-filled buffet lunch.Sharing its anniversary festivities with local community groups has been a tradition for Sands Macao over the last few years.
Also attendedby volunteers from the Sands China Care Ambassador programme and emceed by local TDM anchor Hyper Lo, the young attendees and their parents were treated to a delicious buffet spread, all the while enjoying lively roving entertainment by a caricature artist, face painter and balloon twisters. Two special performances also took the stage: a delightful group of 10 local ballerinas and an incredible speed-painting artist.
Before the start of the buffet, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Sands MacaoGeoff Andres welcomed the guests, saying: “Sands Macaois very pleased to host you today as we celebrate our 10th anniversary. Working closely with Macao’s community organisations to give back to the local community is extremely important for our company, and we thank you for providing us that opportunity. We’re so glad to offer you our hospitality today and to share this festive occasion with you all.”
The happy diners then enjoyed a presentation by a group of Macao’s young ballet dancers.Having won numerous throughout Australia,Thailand, Macao, Hong Kong and mainland China, the Regina Dance Grouppresented a performance by 10 of their talented 10-year-old ballerinas, who entertained the audience with their presentation of “10 Golden Tutus.” The local dance troupe has performed at such high-profile events as the 2000 Celebration of the 1stAnniversary of Macao's Handover to China, and the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Later on, gifted artist Brad Blaze wowed the audience with his amazing display of speed and artistry with a glittering and golden speed painting performance. Blaze may just be the fastest painter in the world, and was recently named “Entertainer of the Year” at the prestigious Australian Event Awards – the highest accolade in entertainment in the corporate and special events industry.
“Our members had such a wonderful time today at Sands Macao,” said one of the attendees. “The food and entertainment were both first-class, and I know a lot of us are taking home some great memories from all the fun we had today. Our thanks go out to Sands Macao and to the Sands China Care Ambassadors!”
The seven community groups attending Sunday’s buffet celebration wereCaritas Macau, Fuhong Society of Macau, Make-A-Wish® Hong Kong, Macau Association of Parents of the Mentally Handicapped, Macau Deaf Association, Macau Holy House of Mercy – Centre for the Rehabilitation for the Blind, and Macau Special Olympics.
The Sands China Care Ambassador programme aims to give Sands China employees an opportunity to serve the local community by helping to make Macao a better place to live, while contributing to its development. With a current membership of 420 volunteers coming together from across all Sands China properties – The Venetian® Macao, Sands Macao, The Plaza™ Macao and Sands® Cotai Central – the Sands China Care Ambassadors have contributed over 4,600 voluntary hours of community service since the programme was founded in August 2009. Sands China Ltd. considers initiatives like this one central to its commitment towards community outreach and service.
