Bangkok--22 May--PR One Network VMware MeConomy 2014 survey results signal a need for companies to adjust their IT policy to cater to the demands of an increasingly mobile workforce In a study released today by VMware on the attitudes and preferences of the modern employee in an increasingly mobile world, it was revealed that more than eight out of 10 millennials* surveyed in Thailand work outside the office and 91% work on their personal device when they travel to and from work. The study also revealed that 67% of working adults in Thailand felt that their home or home office would be the perfect place to work. “Millennials are leading the charge when it comes to working outside the office or on-the-go. And as the profile of the average worker shifts from a baby boomer to a millennial, Thai companies will need to adapt to the changing expectations of the workforce and enable business at the speed of life,” said Dr. Chawapol Jariyawiroj, Country Manager of VMware Thailand and Indochina. The survey results were part of the VMware MeConomy 2014 study, which sought to understand the attitudes and preferences of the modern employee in an increasingly mobile world. The survey included over 153 respondents from Thailand. Increasing demand on HR and IT to support work from outside the office Dr. Chawapol added, “At VMware, we believe that flexible IT arrangements and the ability to work from anywhere influences how employees feel about work. Almost half of those surveyed said access to their work device and network allows them to be flexible with family and personal appointments. We also found that Thai employees actually feel their ideal workplace is their home or home office, followed by their company office and a local cafe.” Mobile workers can place additional pressure on HR and IT to cater to changing expectations and technology needs. Employees surveyed expect their company to support mobile working by providing: A comprehensive and accepted flexi-working policy (53%) Equipment and hardware that allow them to work everywhere (54%) Tools that enable access to applications they need on their own devices (57%). For IT support, they were eager to have: Faster network access (62%) Equipment that works (54%) Quick/real-time response to IT requests (51%) VMware helping companies deliver desktop and application virtualization To help IT better support mobile workers, VMware recently announced VMware Horizon™ 6, an updated portfolio of end-user computing solutions designed to further simplify the use and management of virtual desktops and applications through a single platform.
