More than 350 representatives including ministers, dignitaries, senior officials and civil society representatives from 53 ESCAP Member States attended the successful Asia- Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development held at the award-winning Royal Cliff Hotels Group on May 19-21, 2014.
Royal Cliff was the certified venue entrusted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand and the United Nations Economic And Social Commission (UN ESCAP) to host the prestigious forum which serves as a platform for countries in the Asia- Pacific region to discuss and identify regional sustainable development challenges and prepare for the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) that will be held in New York in July 2014.
Under the theme “Achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)”, the forum commenced with an opening ceremony at the Heads of State Chamber of the Royal Cliff Grand Hotel. Ms. Shamshad Akhtar, Under?Secretary?General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCAP and H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand gave the welcome remarks. Chaired by H.E Mr. Bektas Mukhametjanov, Vice Minister of Environment and Water Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the forum focused on developing strong regional inputs for global dialogue and decision-making, regional economic integration for accelerating economic growth as well as reaffirmed the organizations’ commitment to lead and support social development priorities for the successful achievement of its goals.
