Continuing with the tradition of bagging honors, a student of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Dong Nguyen has been awarded the Best Student Paper award by the West Coast Section of the Air and Water Management Association (AWMA) for its annual AWMA 2014 Conference. AIT students have consistently won this award, and Dong is eighth in line of his worthy predecessors.
Dong’s paper is titled "Application of satellite products to derive a spatially and temporally distributed Emission Inventory of Biomass Open Burning in Vietnam for assessment of co-benefits resulted from emission reduction scenarios," and it is based on research conducted during his Master’s study at AIT.
The Best Student Paper Award fetches him a cash prize of $ 1500 for participating in the International Air & Waste Management Association Meeting and its Student Poster Competition which will be held on 24 June 2014 in Long Beach, California, USA.
A student of Environmental Engineering and Management (EEM) field of study at AIT’s School of Environment, Resources and Management, Dong Nguyen conducted his study under the guidance of Prof. Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh.
Dong continues with the tradition of AIT graduates winning the AWMA award. In 2003, Mr. Nabin Upadhya won the award, while Ms. Dang Thi Ngoc Ha earned the honour in 2006. Papers written by two AIT graduates (May 2007) Mr. Didin Agustian Permadi and Mr. Kok Sothea fetched them the same award.
In 2008, Mr. Prapat Pentamwa won the award; while Ms. Mai Thi Thuy Phuong and Ms. Jin Chin won in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Mr. Nguyen Hong Phuc was the award recipient in 2013. All these students worked under the guidance of Prof. Kim Oanh.
