PTT assures transparency on gas trade deal with Qatargas under G2G contracts and receives government approval on every procedure

Bangkok--5 Jun--PTT Dr. Pailin Chuchottaworn, President and CEO of PTT Public Company Limited or PTT PLC, denies the news published by the UK newspaper The Telegraph which indicates that Mr. Worawi Makudi, Thailand Football Association President, is involved with the LNG trade deal between PTT PLC and Qatar Liquefied Gas Company Limited (Qatargas) in exchange of supporting Mr. Mohamned Bin Hammam, the Qatari Football Chief, to be selected as President of FIFA and Qatar to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022. PTT assures that the LNG trade deals with Qatargas which is Qatar’s national energy company, is transparently made under the Government-to-Government (G2G) contract. In 2010, the National Energy Policy Council (NEPC) and the Cabinet approved PTT to procure LNG in accordance with Thailand’s Power Development Plan (PDP). NEPC and the Cabinet approved PTT to sign long term LNG trade deal with Qatargas in October 2012 which was less than 2 years after the FIFA voted for the 2022 World Cup hosting country in December 2010. “PTT, as the National Energy Company, would like to emphasize our role in ensuring energy security to Thailand as well as being responsible to society, community and environment aligned with the good government principle which concerns of our stakeholders, business ethics and transparency, that we have been adhered to,” Dr. Pailin added.
