Thai Obayashi to offer internships to AIT students

Bangkok--9 Jul--Asian Institute of Technology Thai Obayashi has offered internship programs to students pursuing civil and infrastructure engineering at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). During a visit to AIT on 1 July 2014, Mr. Suradej Tanchajchaval, Senior Professional Engineer and General Manager, Human Resource Department; and Mr. Tadayoshi Furueda, Senior Manager, Administration Department, Thai Obayashi, stated that AIT students could avail of practical hands-on experience at their onsite civil engineering projects in Thailand. Mr. Suradej informed AIT that Thai Obayashi is planning to expand its operations to Myanmar and Cambodia, and this could benefit AIT students from these countries. The internship program offered by Thai Obayashi includes teaching modules and practical field work. The six-credit internship program extends over five months, and students are expected to complete a project during this period. However, Thai Obayashi is willing to tailor their program for AIT students from Myanmar, including offering the internship program in English. Welcoming the delegates, Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto, Interim Vice President for Resource Development remarked that civil engineering continues to be the bedrock of AIT’s academic offerings. He thanked Thai Obayashi for their continued partnership with AIT, and cited the construction of the building of AIT’s Geoinformatics Center (GIC) as an example of their expertise in robust construction. Mr. Sanjeev Jayashinghe, Director, Fundraising stated that AIT is looking towards partnering with Thai Obayashi in two fields -- internships and scholarships. Dr. Pennung Warnitchai of Structural Engineering field of study; Dr. Mathew Dailey of Computer Science and Information Management; and Dr. Punchet Thammarak of Structural Engineering; and Mr. Ravinath T.B.Herath of AIT’s School of Engineering and Technology (SET) participated in the deliberations.
